Simple Cutting Planting Instructions for Great Success
- Work soil with shovel or other equipment to loosen. This should be to the depth you are planting cutting.
- Insert cutting into loosened soil, standing on end, as by diagram below. Be sure to have buds facing the right direction.
- Water well to ensure soil contact with cutting and to settle loosened soil.
- Keep cuttings watered well (not over-watered) and area around tree weed free. Weed and grass competition hurts tree development. Also, be aware of possible frost damage to new growth.
Cuttings can be made in different lengths. This is done to form large root zones deeper in the soil. Deeper root zones ensure better soil moisture if top dries back due to insufficient watering.
